Buddha's Fragrance、A Global History: From Prehistory to the 21st Century

French

After making ME 01, I realised that my diary was only a day in my life and it could not serve as a complete personal history of my life. Therefore, I chose photographs as the vehicle to present my personal history, and I believe that photographs are a good record of every important moment of my life, and they can serve as a material for historical records. Therefore, I collected all the photographs I have taken since I was born, and by burning the pages of a book with Buddhist incense, I had my photographs engraved in A Global History: From Prehistory to the 21st Century. This time I chose a gentler approach; instead of destroying authoritative history altogether, I preserved traces of it in the process of burning it, so that the viewer could see my personal history and the world's authoritative history at the same time as viewing the work. This is an ongoing project, and every time I take a photograph, I will leave that photograph in A Global History: From Prehistory to the 21st Century until I have completely covered all of authoritative history.

scotch、A Global History: From Prehistory to the 21st Century

2019

ME 01 is my first work documenting my personal history. It is a work made with myself as the subject of the experiment. In this work I am documenting my history using my diary entry of 9 November 2019 as a material; I believe that diaries are an effective form of documenting personal history and therefore I wish to immortalise my diary entry in this work. Using scotch as a tool, I uprooted the text in A Global History: from Prehistory to the 21st Century (Chinese edition) that was identical to the content of my diary through scotch, and recreated my personal diary on scotch. scotch, in the process of constructing my personal history, also destroys authoritative history, in a way, I hope to present a state of affairs - the individual has to snatch back the discourse of history from authoritative history, and to emphasise the importance of the individual in the process of reinventing history.
